The owner wanted this small house to better connect to the site and views and not block those very same qualities. The deck was stepped down to bring you closer to the yard and at the same time not block the view from the favorite reading room. A slatted roofing style, carefully located, gave the owner a place to enjoy the day without being ravaged by the hot western exposure - and still preserve views.
